Some of us at the anniversary get together were talking about entering the Bartlett Christmas Parade. I checked their website and found all the information. I was going to post it all here but they have the application with the details in a pdf format and i can't cut and paste it, so here's the link.

There is a limit of 8 cars per club.

well looking at it, it says vehicles must be unique customs or antiques. i'll have to get some clarifications on that.

If they will accept our entry, I'm game.  Sounds like fun!

The Covington Mardi Gras parade lets car clubs in, but the thought of joing in hasn't come up. The Mustang club shows up every year though - with all 3 cars.

Our club also did the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival (www.lastrawberryfestival.com) parade a number of years ago. The bad part was half way through we ran out of throws (beads/trinkets/candy), and the crowd started throwing things at the cars. Not fun, getting pelted in the face by a pair of beads thrown by a drunken redneck. The festival itself, is always a fun time.

that's one thing bartlett has changed in the last few years, no throwing of items from cars/floats or they say they will pull you from the parade at the location of the occurrence.

No throws? That makes for a boring parade grin

This, of course, coming from someone who was born and raised on Mardi Gras. I remember watching the Macys T-day parade as a child and asking my mom why they weren't throwing the beads and doubloons.

Of course, its probably safer without the throws.

Yes, parades are much different here in the north. That's why we have to go to Mardi Gras on occasion. Nothing against the parades up here, but they are a lot more fun down there!

So it sounds like plenty of interest in it.  Any news on getting in at all?

ok, i talked to Mrs. Morrison at Bartlett, they WILL allow the cars to enter the parade but they are limited to 8 cars per club and I believe you have to have a banner at the lead of the group. I won't be able to enter mine as I am pulling the float for the scout pack again this year. I think the entry dead line is Nov 16.

That sounds great. I bet we would only have about 8 interested anyway... maybe not even that many. Are you going to fill out the forms or whatever is required for entry, or should I look into that? We can get a banner made, and I have looked into that before, but we would all need to chip in to cover the cost. It is a little over $100 last time I checked on one.

We need to have a banner anyways, so as long as it would last more than one event, I have no problem chipping in.

let me check and see if car clubs need banners or not. the entry fee is listed at 25.00, i need to clarify that's not PER vehicle. if it is, i can't see them getting many entrants. i think a headcount of people willing to do it will be required since they like to know how many they will have lined up. I don't mind doing the paperwork, but someone that will have their car in the parade would probably be better, at least as a contact and for staging the cars on the day of the parade.

I know I'm in Jackson, but I wouldn't mind chipping in and coming out if there is room.

We will make sure you are included Ben. Mike, I will fill out the form this weekend and mail it the first of next week. After looking over the form again it looks like the $25 should cover all of us. If you can clarify that would be great, but I am just going to pay the $25 and mail it with the form. Hopefully that will reserve our spot. There doesn't even look like there is a spot to list how many cars we have. So, it looks like to me this doesn't have to be set in stone until the event. If we show up with 8 cars or less we should be okay. If more than 8 show up we'll just have to park one or two and the ones that are parked will ride with members that will be driving. I'll look into the banner also. We do need one for this and other future events. I may pass around a can at the parade to help pay for the banner.
